Encountering the Unknown
This project, Encountering the Unknown: The Natural World Beyond Anthropocentric Ways of Knowing, explores pathways through which the more-than-human world can be sensed, experienced, and encountered that eschew the hierarchical and extractive logics of anthropocentric understandings of the environment. Circumventing widely-held conceptions about knowing that centre around rationality, conceptuality, and scientific detachment, it engages a plethora of ways in which we can experience our place within the natural order of things. This involves moving through fields of inquiry like, among other, deep ecology, rhythmic analysis, ecofeminism, and bioacoustics. Through these various exercises of knowing, the unknown is sensed without collapsing it into the known.
